Kite and Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing Continue to Improve with Strong Finish at Richmond

Jimmy Kite, driver of the No. 91 Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing Dallara/Toyota/Firestone, ran a consistant race finishing 13th during the Suntrust Indy Challenge IndyCar Series race at Richmond International Raceway.

For the second straight race, Kite and Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing had their best qualifying time starting a season best 13th. With new team personnel in the pits, including crew chief Brian Hornick and chief engineer Mike Colliver, Kite and the Ethanol Hemelgarn Team are improving each week. Kite managed to stay out of trouble during an accident filled race. He got out of sequence early on in the race and went a couple of laps down, but got back up to speed and was on pace with the pack all night.

"It’s not the result we wanted, but we saw the checkered flag. After the last couple of months we really needed this. Now we have something to build on and the next few tracks we go to are a lot of fun. We’re confident that we can continue to improve going forward. We really needed to see the checkered flag here and we did, so we’re happy about that," said Kite.

“We had a good qualifying this weekend and ran well all night. We missed a couple of yellows which hurt us, but we had a good car and we were steady all night. We were able to run with the leaders and we had great pit stops. The team is getting stronger and we expect to go to Kansas City and improve on where we left off tonight," said team owner, Ron Hemelgarn.

Kite and Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing will return to action on Sunday, July 3 at Kansas Speedway for the Argent Mortgage Indy 300. Kite will attempt to become the first driver to win a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and Indy Racing IndyCar Series race at the same track on the same weekend. Kite made history as the first person to race a NASCAR Truck and Indy car on the same track back-to-back at TMS where he finished 24th and 22nd respectively.

Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing is currently in 23rd place in the standings with 39 points.

Kite is currently in his rookie season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and, for the last three years, has competed in the United States Auto Club (USAC) Silver Crown Series.

Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing is backed by a group of companies within the fast-growing ethanol industry, led by the major ethanol design-build firms Fagen Inc., ICM Inc., and Broin Companies. Ethanol is a high octane, high performance fuel that is clean burning, renewable and made in America. As a growing component of the United States' gasoline supply, it delivers improved vehicle performance while reducing emissions and improving air quality. The IndyCar Series has announced that it will switch to ethanol as its fuel source beginning with a 10% blend in 2006 and moving to 100% fuel-grade ethanol in 2007.

The team's 2005 roster of supporting partners under the ethanol banner was announced earlier this week and includes nearly 30 equipment and process technology vendors and suppliers to the Ethanol industry.

A major ethanol industry sponsor on the 2005 roster is Ethanol Products. Major associate sponsors are Dakota Gold Marketing, Flottweg, Novozymes, and Victory Energy. Associate sponsors are A&B Process Systems, Advance Tank Construction, Alfa Laval, Brown Tank, Invensys Foxboro, J&D Construction, Laidig Systems, McCormick Construction, Mid America Steel, Monsanto, and WINBCO Tank. Supporters include the American Coalition for Ethanol, Blackburn Construction, E&I Specialists, the Ethanol Promotion & Information Council, the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, New Energy Corp., the Renewable Fuels Association and Tranter PHE. Other friends of the program are Barr-Rosin, Felker Fabrication, Malloy Electric Bearing Supply, SBI Mechanical, Wanzek Construction, and Westfalia Separator.
