Kite and Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing Exit Indy 500 Early
Sunday, May 29, 2005
INDIANAPOLIS IN

Jimmy Kite, replacement driver of the No. 91 Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing Dallara/Toyota/Firestone, had his day end early during the 89th Indianapolis 500. Mechanical problems with the car forced the team to park it on lap 47.

Kite, substituting for injured rookie driver, Paul Dana, started the race in the 32nd position and was never able to get the car up to speed. After coming into the pits once to make changes on the car, the Ethanol Hemelgarn racing team decided to park it for the day.

“I feel bad for the whole Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing Team. I know that Ron (Hemelgarn) didn’t come to Indy to run 47 laps. We had a few good weeks of practice this month and wish we could have been out there a little longer,” Kite said.

“It was great being back at Indy and working with a great team. I usually compete against these guys, but it was exciting to work with them. We will have to wait to see what happens for the rest of the season, but hopefully I will be back at the next race.”

Kite is currently in his rookie season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and, for the last three years, has competed in the United States Auto Club (USAC) Silver Crown Series.

Dana, who injured in practice on May 13 with 2 fractured vertebre, was trackside as the No. 91 Ethanol Hemelegarn Racing Dallara/Toyota/Firestone was on the track.

Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing is backed by a group of companies within the fast-growing ethanol industry, led by the major Ethanol design-build firms Fagen Inc., ICM Inc., and Broin Companies. Ethanol is a high octane, high performance fuel that is clean burning, renewable and made in America. As a growing component of the United States' gasoline supply, it delivers improved vehicle performance while reducing emissions and improving air quality.

The team’s 2005 roster of supporting partners under the ethanol banner was announced earlier this week and includes nearly 30 equipment and process technology vendors and suppliers to the Ethanol industry.
